Press Release: For Immediate
Release 06/02/06
(updated 06/15/06)
Note: *Assistants, volunteers, media collaborators are STILL NEEDED for ALL PRIDE events in June & July even after the Los Altos Parade - all over Northern California.
QueerVideo.TV with
David Holleb as Producer/Director/Editor
will be shooting video of this event and many other Gay
Parades/Marches/Events over the next several weeks
for "Gay Pride Month".
At this time the focus of the documentary is GSA/high
school youth, parents, families and support systems. Plans are
for a longer version which will be made during the summer, as
well as single focus shorts for cable TV to be produced ASAP.
Any other thoughts or suggestions are
appreciated.
I spoke with the
advisor to the GSA at Los Altos High and she thinks the idea is
great with full support. Permission of other GSA
members and the Los Altos High School principal has also just
been received.
NEXT EVENT:
36th Annual San
Francisco Pride 2006
Sunday
June 25th
9:30am - 7pm (or earlier depending on events and number of
interviews).
And while it would be
cool if you could assist for most of the day, assistants are only
needed for a minimum of 2-3 hour intervals (like 9:30am-Noon,
Noon-2:30pm, 2:30-5pm or as available)
(Note: Los Altos and San Jose Pride
parades/marches/events went great- lots of footage- AND NOW a
person or persons who wants to help out in some or all the other
cities like S.F., Oakland and beyond are NEEDED.)
Ideally I would like a GLBT community
member to assist (I'm a member of the College of San Mateo GSA)
and/or student to help me with interviews, sound, release forms,
etc. You do not have to be "out" or very "visible", but it would
be cool if you were.
IF YOUR CITY/TOWN is having a Gay Pride Event/Parade/March anywhere in Northern California please contact us to see if we can come and shoot.
Some video, sound or production experience is of course
preferred.
Any amount of EXPERIENCE is fine,
for being an assistant, and general video/photo knowledge is
helpful, BUT you should be comfortable talking to all kinds of
people, and diligent about having people we interview fill out
release forms, but a passion for media & GLBT issues is probably most
important.
This may be shot in HD, and if you want to learn about all or
some of the basics of Documentary/ENG/EFP and Sound/Video/Editing
with pro equipment- please contact me ASAP-
EMAIL ME FIRST- telling me about why you want to
do this (including your future goals), your past expereience, and
feel free to follow up later with a phone call- up until midnight if you
want.
At this point there is no actual "pay", but
transportation/gas/food money will be provided especially if
you're a student. Production credit will be given. If we
should be lucky and any proceeds from the production are realized
in the future, then you will get some compensation, (but this is
NOT the goal of this production.)

ACTION ALERT: "Historic First: Los Altos High School Gay Straight
Alliance Wins Permit for Youth Pride Parade" (Los Altos)
"Historic First: Los Altos High School Gay Straight Alliance Wins
Permit for Youth Pride Parade After Two Year Struggle With City
Council"
Where: Los Altos, CA
When: Sunday, June 4, 2006
Noon to 1:30 PM
"Celebrating Pride, Diversity, and Equality" is the theme
announced for the historic first Pride Parade hosted by the Los
Altos High School GSA. After a two year battle with City Council
officials, the local GSA failed to overturn an anti-gay ordinance
prohibiting an official "Gay Pride Proclamation" but won a permit
for the city's first-ever gay pride event which celebrates and
supports queer and questioning youth.
The Parade and Rally are scheduled for Sunday, June 4, starting
at noon. Event organizers hope for a strong turn out from local
area supporters to bolster the ongoing GSA campaign to get the
City of Los Altos to issue an official proclamation of Gay Pride
in 2007.
*Local Area GSAs, PFLAG, and other queer and questioning youth
supportive groups are welcome to join the parade and enter
floats.
*Marching Bands and Chorale Groups also welcome to join parade
and rally which follows in City Square.
*Deadline for submitting entries is Saturday, May 20.
*Youth and adult volunteers also welcome to help with parade
set-up 10 AM to Noon and Parade clean-up 2:30-3:30 PM.
*All donations to underwrite parade expenses and support the
ongoing work of Los Altos GSA gladly received.
